About

Welcome, I'm Renae.

Renae Raso, clinical psychologist and founder of Nurture Psychology

I'm a clinical psychologist and the founder of Nurture Psychology. I first registered as a psychologist in 2000, took time out to raise my family, and came back to practice in the perinatal space because of the particular challenges of that journey.

Being a mum of three myself, I felt a personal pull into this work. I wanted to offer a grounding, supportive space for parents through a time that can hold intense highs and lows, and for mums in particular a place where, even just for a while, they don't feel alone and can be heard and really seen.

There is a real need to feel held in this space, and that is the foundation of everything else in my work.

What brings people here

If yours is not named here, it still belongs in the room.

How I can help

  • Conception and fertility

The waiting, the appointments, and the grief that can arrive each month. Support through trying, and through fertility treatment.

  • Pregnancy and antenatal support

Anxiety or fear about pregnancy and birth, low mood, feeling overwhelmed, and the times pregnancy stirs up something older.

  • Grief and loss

Perinatal and infant loss, and the losses that are harder to name: unmet expectations, a changed identity, relationships that shift.

  • Birth trauma

Making sense of a birth that was frightening, disempowering, or simply not what you expected, whatever anyone else says about the outcome.

  • Postnatal support and early parenting

Overwhelm, anxiety, identity changes, guilt, feeling disconnected, and what surfaces when your own childhood meets your child.

  • Trauma recovery with EMDR

For trauma in the perinatal period, and for older experiences that still carry weight years later.

My approach

EMDR, in plain language

EMDR helps a memory become something that happened, rather than something that keeps happening.

The gentle left to right movement an EMDR session uses. Nothing about it is done to you, and you can stop at any point.

Some memories never settle. They sit unfinished, and a sound, a date or a smell can pull you straight back into them. EMDR gives the brain a way to finish that work, slowly and at your pace, with you awake and in control from beginning to end.

How EMDR works

You won't need to retell every detail for us to work with what happened.
